Campaign Update
Our campaign is in full swing!
I have spent many afternoons knocking on doors to learn more about the many corners of our Cambridge/Waterville community. Having knocked on nearly 500 doors, one of my favorite questions I've encountered is, "How much time do you have? Would you like to take a seat?" This just shows an incredible level of community engagement and involvement in our small region.
No matter how much time you have to offer when I knock on your door, it is energizing to learn what is on your mind. Some topics that have come up frequently include accessible child care, affordable housing, and expanding broadband. I would like to take this opportunity to share more broadly my thoughts on these issues:
I believe affordable and accessible child care is essential to building a Vermont where all children, families, and communities can thrive. We saw just how critical child care is during the lockdown phase of the COVID-19 pandemic, but these issues have always existed and continue to disrupt families today. I am committed to contributing to a comprehensive child care system that meets the needs of children and families while fairly compensating early childhood educators and caregivers.
Every Vermonter deserves a safe and affordable place to call home. We need to work together on building more affordable housing so our communities can prosper and grow. As a legislator, I will collaborate with experts in the housing industry to develop policies that mitigate supply shortages and keep affordability in mind so there are options for all of us.
I've heard from so many of you (and face this challenge too myself) that high-quality internet access is crucial in order to learn, work, and live within our communities. More of us are working and learning from home here in Cambridge and Waterville than ever before, and we need policies and working groups to meet this lifestyle change. Over the past two years, Lamoille FiberNet has been working hard to build a fiber network to serve our communities and I look forward to seeing their plans come to fruition!
Rain or shine, I will continue to knock on doors and hope to have thought provoking conversations about the future of Vermont with each and every one of you! If I missed you while you were out, please do not hesitate to reach out to me.
All the best,
Lucy Boyden
