Diversity Within Our Government

This week, I had the pleasure of attending the three debates that the News and Citizen put on for the other State Representative candidates across Lamoille county. Throughout each event, I was continuously impressed with each candidate's willingness to wholeheartedly speak to the issues that our communities face, along with their civility.

During Lamoille-2's event when questions were opened up to the floor, one stood out to me, "Historically our governments have been lacking in diversity, being very white, very male, older, and often people who have enough of a comfortable income, especially in Vermont. I'm curious if you all support diversifying the legislature and if so how?"

A government that truly represents its people is so important. Diversifying the pool of voices at the table allows unique experiences, opinions, and perspectives on critical issues. As a result, the ability to serve and support the needs of all communities will be greatly enhanced.

Listen to how the Lamoille-2 candidates answered this question here: https://youtu.be/ZQPUMHp7D7Y from 3:30:35 to 3:36:50

As our community votes early and prepares to vote in person on November 8, I encourage you to look into each candidate and where they stand on the issues.
